Mission Statement of Northside Fellowship Church

"I have been given complete authority in heaven and on earth.  Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.  Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.  And be sure of this:  I am with you always even to the end of the age."  Matthew 28:18-20

Northside Fellowship is a family of faith on a mission to know and make known the fullness of life in Jesus Christ.

Above are words spoken by Jesus which are often referred to as the Great Commission.  It has been said that a great Commitment to the Great Commission and the Great Commandment make a great church.  We agree!  We hope that commitment is reflected in our shorter mission statement above, and our longer statement which follows.

Our Ministry to the Lord:

  • Jesus instructs us to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. (Mark 12:30)
  • We seek to love the Lord through unconditional obedience to him as individuals and as a body.
  • We desire to give the Lord our personal affection and deepest respect through personal and corporate worship.
  • The preaching of the Word, the administration of the Sacraments, prayers, songs and hymns of proclamation and praise are to draw us into a right relationship with Jesus Christ and to lead us into a more intimate devotion to the Lord, as well as a more God-pleasing way of life.
  • We are committed to Biblical worship that enables those of our culture to fully express their love and reverence for the Lord.

Our Ministry to One Another:

  • Our Savior gives us the commnd to love one another as he has loved us. (John 13:34)
  • We attempt to love one another by meeting each other's physical, emotional and spiritual needs by the power of the Holy Spirit following the pattern of the first believers (e.g. Acts 2:42:47).
  • We maintain that God has gifted each of us for a unique ministry in the body of Christ, and we are to serve the Lord and the church using the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
  • The Home Fellowship at Northside is the usual context for ministering to one another, especially in terms of caring, prayer and teaching ministries.  Pastoral care at Northside is primarily given by lay people from our Home Fellowships.
  • In an effort to give priority to ministry to one another as well as our mutual ministry to others outside of our local fellowship, we maintain the leanest possible commitee structure within Northside Fellowship.

Our Ministry to Others:

  • Jesus Christ has commissioned us to go with his ministry to all nations. (Matthew 28:19)
  • It is our prayer that as we are "clothed with power from on high" (Luke 24:49), we will be a blessing to our brothers and sisters in Christ and those outside of Jesus Christ locally, regionally, nationally and to the ends of the earth.  We want to be used by God to refresh, renew and equip individual believers and local churches.
  • We desire to send workers and financial resources to benefit our brothers and sisters laboring in urban ministries in this country.
  • It is our hope to encourage the Lord's work in other countries through the sending of money and people in response to God's call.
  • In our daily lives and by creative programs we seek to share the good news of Jesus Christ boldly so that those who are separated from Christ might have the opportunity to believe in him and receive him, thus becoming children of God by the gift of God. (John 1:12)
  • Finally, we sense the call of God to work for the health of our society, to promote healthy morals, and to provide for the poor and oppressed.
